The Sandy Douglass Regatta

“Cutting Edge” and the Sandy Douglass Regatta

This weekend is the annual Sandy Douglass Regatta on Deep Creek Lake.

Sandy Douglass, best known for his remarkable sailboat designs, including the iconic Flying Scot, manufactured near Deep Creek Lake and the sailboat of choice on the lake. His career, which began in the 1930s, left an indelible mark on sailing, making it more accessible to a broader audience. The Flying Scot, introduced in 1957, remains a widely raced one-design class and a testament to Douglass’s enduring influence.

Cutting Edge, an original watercolor and mixed media on canvas, features a flying scot in action and has been used as promotional artwork for the Sandy Douglass Regatta for a few years.

If you visit my studio this weekend, on the lake’s southern end, you might catch the regatta in action.
